How does protected tenancy (besittningsskydd) affect me?

Generally speaking, protected tenancy (besittningsskydd) applies only to sublettning of tenancy-apartments (hyresrätter). Protected tenancy means that the subletting tenant may have the right to stay in the apartment even though the rental period has expired.

The protected tenancy can also apply if a landlord has several homes that he/she rents out in parallel so that it is regarded as a business activity. In other words, you who have a home which is not a tenancy-apartment (hyresrätt) generally do not have to think about the protected tenancy.
